what a druzy

Photobucketever since going to the natural history museum in dc a few years back, i have had a love for rocks and stones. especially pyrite. this beauty is what grant gave me for my birthday this year. it's perfect and just the way i like it. i love how raw and rough it is. plus it has just the right amount of sparkle. do you have a favorite gemstone?

blogger has been frustrating this week. agree? i hope we can get the comments back from the last few posts because i really wanted grant to see all the compliments on the table. but i'm sure those behind blogger are doing what they can.

i am just a day away from being full term (37 weeks) and definitely already googling ways to go into labor. i am just at the point that every one talks about. feeling uncomfortable and huge. i'm still nauseous and wondering if it will truly go away after delivery. i know it will but i just don't remember what it's like to feel normal.

this little girl inside me is so active that sometimes i just want to cry. i can only imagine how uncomfortable she is but her poking and kicking and whatever else isn't really fun to feel at this point. sometimes when she is going crazy in there, i get mad at grant because i feel like it's his fault. i mean it is his daughter.

i have a question for mothers out there, what did your baby sleep in before transferring to a crib? in those first few months? and does anyone have any advice for me? since i am about to have one of the most amazing/crazy/painful and beautiful experiences of my life?

oh and my list of things to do before she comes? we're down to 30 things now.

back to jewelry, i love alyson brown's taste. her love for classics, clean lines and naturalness in jewelry helps me to realize how beautiful the simplest pieces can be. here is a good example.

still wasting lots and lots of time on my pinterest. IT IS SO MUCH FUN!!!

hang in there! i can't believe you're that close. i am so sooo excited for you! delivery was such an amazing experience. it's just so surreal. you are laying in that bed and they tell you you're reading and it's just unbelievable that you're going to suddenly have a baby and hold him (her, in your case) in your arms and then..craziest part..they'll let you take her home! i was seriously like, "they're just gonna let us walk out of here with him?" ha. i don't really have any advice. just try to take it all in, i guess. there are nurses and doctors and people coming in and out, and i think it's easy to get caught up in the moment. i remember trying to just take it in and remember it. anyway. maybe you were asking for advice on how to go into labor? don't have any there. but anyway..good luck! i'm so excited fo ryou!

We tried having Grace start in her crib and she DID NOT like it! My mom had saved my cradle from when I was a baby and so we cleaned that up and have been using that. So great. It's good for her (she doesn't feel like she's in too open of a space) and it's good for me (easier to have her right next to me in the middle of the night for when she needs to eat). I don't know if you are planning on breastfeeding, but the Boppy has made it so much easier for both of us. My advice to you is to soak it all in. It is the most beautiful, amazing, and spiritual experience. I feel like I could write so much because we just went through all of it a month ago and everything is still so fresh in my mind and we are going through what you will be in just 3 weeks! But if you have any questions, just email me. Enjoy your last few weeks with just you and Grant, your love for each other will grow so much when your little girl comes, but enjoy now too. Okay, Grace just spit up EVERYTHING she just ate all over the both of us, so I'm done. Good luck! I am so excited for you!

what a beautiful necklace!

my kids slept in a little bassinet that was attached to a pack-and-play. and to be honest, they slept in our bed a lot. i don't love that but sometimes it was all i could do to get some sleep!

i LOVE the table you made! we've been wanting to do the same thing! maybe you've motivated me.

Evie slept in a bassinet butted right up to my side of the bed until she was at least 4 months. It was great. And the closest thing we could get to her sleeping in our bed without all the safety hazards. Plus it was super easy access for late night feedings. I honestly missed her when she started sleeping in her own room.

Here's my advice: Don't sweat the small stuff. It will all come together. It doesn't have to all be done before she is born either. You need way less than you think. As long as you have dipes, wipes and boob juice, you're golden. Dead serious. Oh, and just remember that nursing is so worth it. Do you plan to nurse? Cuz it's brutal the first few weeks but the pain does end.

I have way more advice i could give but you'll figure it out real quick. Just sleep when the baby sleeps!

I've had a couple different experiences with sleeping before the crib. Grace slept in her car seat just outside our door for about a month and then in a pack n' play, and Claire and Lucy both slept in the pack n' play in our room. What kind of questions do you have??? I kind of like talking about this type of stuff so feel free to ask questions!! :) One thing that comes to mind that I wish I had done, gotten my first birth on video. Not anything graphic but my reaction and the feeling in the room right as the baby is coming. I wanted to remember it exactly and was sad I didn't think of it before.

Britt - I am totally feeling your pain right now! I have about 1 1/2 weeks left and I am SOOOO uncomfortable!! I always blame Brent too... I think it is only fair! As far as ways to go into labor, don't try the spicy foods... I did with Keagan and all it did was give me horrible, horrible heartburn and I couldn't sleep for days!
We kept Keagan in a bassinet in our room for the first 5 months. I loved it.
I am so excited for you guys!!!!! Trust me, it is worth all the pain... and this is coming from someone who detests EVERY aspect of pregnancy! Being a mom is great!

I co-slept with both girls. Neither of them were great sleepers (still really aren't) and that was the only way I got any sleep. But then again, I'm a wimpy mom who can't let her babies cry to sleep. You'll do great. Having a new baby, especially your first is amazing. Good luck!!!

First we had Emma in our room in a bassinet but when we would move around in our sleep it would wake her up. After about a week of that she moved into her own room in a crib and did great as long as she was swaddled tightly. Once we moved her to her own room she slept longer stretches and by 2 months she was sleeping through the night...well from 11pm to 6am.
I agree with the boppy comment above...it was a life and back saver for sure!
Also with Emma I had my membranes stripped at 38 weeks. The next day my water broke and she was here! It is kinda painful when they do it and it doesn't always work but it is worth a try for her to be out 2 weeks earlier than my due date!
I also wish I had a video from the delivery room to remember what all was going on and stuff.
One last thing...I wish people would have told me that throwing up was common during the pushing part. I threw up every where and wasn't expecting it at all. I wish I could have prepared myself a little better for that.
I can't wait to see pictures and find out the name : )

Beautiful necklace! You are almost there, keep hanging in it will all be worth it and you will be a great mom. I can't wait to see pictures of her!

I love that you have really random things that you love. Like pyrite? Never heard of it, but that is such a pretty necklace!

I need to send your baby shower gift. Maybe my goal should be before your little one is born. What is your due date again?

I had Oliver sleep in a bassinet, but after a few weeks he would wake up practically every hour. He hated sleeping flat on his back. He slept best when I held him! So, when I was really desperate (which ended up being the majority of the time) I would hold him (cradle him like a baby) all night long. I was always worried about co-sleeping, but it was honestly the only way he would sleep! I pretty much put pillows up and I would be almost sitting up holding him. Those were rough nights. Finally I got a Nap Nanny. Did you ever see it? If not, look it up- they are supposedly pediatrician recommended. It was basically a mini bed for Oliver, but it was inclined with sides so he felt like he was being cradled. We had it in our bed with us from about 2-4 months and he slept a lot better. Eventually I quit all of those things (swaddling, nap nanny, rocking) cold turkey (I think around 6 months) and he doesn't rely on anything to sleep now!

Wow, long comment. My advice is to wait and see how Baby Girl is. Some babies are totally fine flat on their backs in their own crib.

Oh yah, and swaddling works wonders!

i'm a moron. after reading today's post i realized that on this post you were asking for advice on sleeping situations. why was i going on and on about labor? ha. sorry! my grandpa made dane a cradle, but he only slept in it for a month and then michael was antsy to move him to a crib, so we did. he didn't seem to prefer one over the other. he still seemed so tiny in that giant crib when he was a month old, but he liked it. anyway, i don't know if that helps very much, but there ya go!

So, sleeping... We tried a bassinet but Olivia has a little bit of reflux so the laying flat was not fun for either of us. After doing some research and reading some mom sites, we bought the fisher price rock and play sleeper. It was only like 50 bucks and she sleeps so well in it. Plus it is a little elevated which helped her reflux. And, it is small and can be folded up when you aren't using it. I love having her right there in the middle of the night when I need to feed her. We are in the process of moving her into her room right now and it is going pretty good.

About the nausea... I am so sorry! I was the same way and it sucked so bad but it does get better. Just be patient, I was still nauseated for about a week after I had her, but it does go away, hopefully you won't be sick that long after, my friend said hers went away right after delivering. Good luck with everything!!
