American Museum of Natural History

On Sunday, Grant and I wanted to explore DC before church. We decided that the metro would be the fastest (parking is so annoying in the city) and so we were prepared this time. I can't believe that I've never tried this stuff before. Seriously the best thing ever. Worked like a dream. I still don't particularly enjoy riding the metro (and yes some drivers are better than others) (trust me I know) but it was great not feeling like I was going to barf. Or actually barfing... like last time.

We went to the American Museum of Natural History. "Scientific research and education institution, with collections of more than 32 MILLION specimens and artifacts". The museum has four floors, the different sections range from THE HALL OF NORTH AMERICAN BIRDS to REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS to THE BUTTERFLY CONSERVATORY and OCEAN LIFE. A million types of mammals and also The HALL OF MINERALS AND GEMS which was my favorite (the HOPE diamond, hello!?) and THE SAURISCHIAN DINOSAURS were Grant's favorite. Now... history is not really one of my best subjects, but the museum was Uh-Maze-ING!!!If any of you have been there, or even if you've seen "Night at the Museum", you understand. I could not contain myself. I took so many pictures. We really had so much fun. I want to go again. This is in the rotunda, not all elephants are this big. But this one was HUGE!

Please don't judge me in these pictures. I'm only standing there to show that I was there, the point of the picture is the turtle. The HUGE turtle.

Yay for Dinos!
Sometimes I wish we could just hire someone to follow us around
and take our picture whenever we wanted.

T-REX

Reptiles are gross. This is for my mom, she loves snakes...

We also got to hold these....yucky insect things....

The Minerals and Gems were absolutely beautiful. If you can see in the pictures... They put the gem next to the stone/rock that it came from. They had so many rocks of all different textures and SO many colors. I loved the Fool's Gold, it was such a cool metallic gray brown. The pinks and reds were gorgeous... corals, fuschias, crimsons and magentas.
But really...I loved every color.

In the next room they had the most beautiful jewelry EVER.
The crown was my favorite. I want it!

And saving the best for last...... The HOPE Diamond.

ooo sparklies. I love shiny things. Nate says that makes me a fish. Whatever, he doesn't know what he's missing. Who did you get to take the photos. Cute outfit, by the way!

WOW! I want to go there! So, are you guys just starting there and sight seeing on the way back... or what exactly... you didn't really explain and we don't get to talk much... so explain! It looks like you guys are having tons of fun though... are gas prices as insane out there as they are here?

How fun! I wish we could come and visit and you could show us around. I have always wanted to go there. Britt, you are so pretty and sweet...and I know I sound weird, but if we lived by each other I think we'd be such good friends because I just feel so much love for you! Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog, you have no idea how much that meant to me, and it totally made my day (X a million). Oh, and have I mentioned that I love your blog?!?!
